The winter of 09-10 will be remebered as a long, cold, snowy and pretty annoying one. But it’s seems like it has lost the battle against spring in New York, at last!
We found our rooftop be the perfect spot for hanging out on sunny sundays!
We also hade a visit from Björn who been spending one week hare in New York before he heads back to Sweden!
Me and Björn went urban exploring in downtown brooklyn the other day and we spotted some cool stuff!
We also took a cab to Brooklyn Flea-market, an old bank building that now is filled with awesome second-hand, upcoming designers pieces and random awesomeness! And the old vault (with a massive safe-door and all) is now a small foodcourt with all different knds of food and pasteries! A must see if you ever visit New York and wanna do some serious second-hand shopping!
Well hows work then?
Work is smooth as always. Besides of developing I also got my first project as a producer! I can’t belive it’s been four months since we arrived in NYC, time just flies by. I have loved every second of it and will probably love the rest as well!
Hyper Island Recruitment Tour comes to New York!
Yea that’s right! Hyper is recruiting international students and will be hosted at Droga5! So if your curious about what Hyper Island is all about, and are in New York on the 13th of march, just swing by! I’ll be there and mingle and answer questions!
One more thing… Welcome Harald!
Harald arrived today and are going to do his internship at Great Works! Welcome dude!
Gah what a long post.. I need to do smaller posts, more often.. But the time! WERE DO I FIND THE TIME!?
Work for 10hours, eat for one and then freelance for the remaining.. And I really need to update my portfolio as well..
Last friday our new colleagues Tore and Erik got knighted together with Harold who recently went from squire to knight! Congratulations guys!
Yes, they seriously got knighted! With real swords and all… And beer.. and champagne..
During the weekend me and Kristofer, together with Erik, made a power run to IKEA! After getting lost in downtown Brooklyn on our way there we finally got to the place and got ourselves some desks, chairs and other nice to have stuff for the apartment! As usual we got the stuff delivered to our place with a “black cab”.
We also bought some delicious swedish treats! Gevalia, Ballerina, Marabou and Ahlgrens bilar best “fika” in 2010!
I bought two wooden rods and some hangers to do some IKEA-hacking on my own! The result became pretty good, so now I have my own walk in closet… who I also live in… But still!
Later on the sunday we watched our first Superbowl! Made it an all american evening (!?) with pizza, bud lights and Doritos! The game, New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts, was actually pretty entertaining! But it’s a good thing I like advertising, because on every minute of the game it was 15sec of game, 45sec of commercial
The first month of 2010 is soon to be over and the new decenium couldn’t start out any better, the epic year-bar has been set! It has happened so much, this blogpost is gonna be a big one Mostly semi-crap images caught on my iphone as usual, but it will have to do!
First out
is my first DJ-gig in New York! Jens, James and some of their friends threw a big party at the beautiful lounge of Thompson Hotel LES and asked me to DJ the event, of-course I said yes! It was a great evening except from som minor technological issues with the DJ-setup. Even though the place was a lounge, I managed to scrape some dancemoves together from the crowd
One pale dude
The beautiful Thompson Hotel LES! For ALOT of pictures from the night, visit Your-Majestys flickr-page (some pictures might be NSFW)
Next thing
is that mine and Kristofers first project on Your-Majesty has gone live! We made a flash micro-site for Bloombergs upcoming campaign “Think Technology Solutions”. It was quite the challange to get all 3d stuff in there so I’m very proud that it turned out the way it did. Check it out here –> Think Technology Solutions
I learned tons of stuff during this project that will help me handle the next incoming projects much more efficient!
Puerto Rico!
Even more epic than the previous headlines are that Your-Majesty decided to invite the whole company on a trip to Puerto Rico for the weekends! We went there for 5days and stayed at Hilton Caribe.
We had a great time, so much crazy fun. Unfortunately the weather was pretty rough at sometimes, but we compensated with drinkin Pina Coladas instead, which helped out. We also happened to time in the monthly carneval of San Juan (the capitol of Puerto Rico). Alot of people doing alot of crazy shit
Photo galore!
Four serious dudes and a happy Georgios!
The view that greeted us every morning.
The garden at Hilton Caribe
The Mojito Point of View
And Margaritas! (Love the Duckface Krista)
After drinks we went downtown to check out the carneval everyone was talking about. There was ALOT of people hangin out, dancing and what not!
We did as the locals and bought ourselves some Puerto Rican Partydrinks! Basically slush-puppy with alot of rum added to it Happy lads!
Looks like they spotted something…
Damn that dude have an awesome Padawan tail going on… Better drink more to calm my jealousness…
Feeling muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better now!
After a while we decided to enter that blue building in the background inside was, wait for it…
We did not only drink us off our asses on the streets of San Juan…
We did it at fancy places to!
Les San Juan Hotel / Casion – Fancy pantsy place.
“Awmagaaad I looove casinoos”
I did not leave the casino with alot of money…
It sure was a couple of exciting days.
Instead of checking to rehab, we are now all back at the office, working our asses of as usual.
But I can’t really complain about my internship so far Not a single thing actually, I’m loving it, as fat people say.
Here are two pics of how the custom “shoebox” rooms turned out, mine still looks like a piece of sh**t so I can’t show it yet, I’ll do it when I’ve visited IKEA
The living room, each window is a shoebox, mine is the one on the top right! Keeping it minimal with the furniture. Although we let Greg go loose with a Krink-pen:
So the holidays are finally over. We had a ton of friends visiting during the holidays, and my wonderful girlfriend even came to visit me over new years, it couldn’t be better!
As usual I’m blogging so late at night so I can’t come up with anything good to write about. But I’ll be doing my first videoblog soon! I think I’m gonna start doing more videoupdates in 2010!
Some random pictures from the last couple of wonderful weeks.
5pm at New Years eve… I had almost lost faith in that we should host the most epic new years party in Brooklyn.
We even had goodlooking people forming a line for the bathroom!
Thanks to everyone to who showed up! And to our lovely neighbors who allowed us at their places!
The days when we didn’t party I spent urban exploring and in cosy cafés with Sara-Lee, best of times
Streetart comes in many forms and sizes yo.
Unfortunately for my blogpost all other pictures were taken with SLs camera so this is all I have for now… So I’ll end this little photopost with a nice piece of “Suspicious Putin” that we found somewhere around Bedford avenue.
Although I filmed a little bit yesterday when I took a powerwalk over Williamsburg bridge! The view was insane, kind of not showing on the movie, but I speak swedish with a funny Smålänsk accent. Weird to hear yourself on tape…
Don’t have that many intresting images to share this weekend. Me and Krista have been busting our asses with the project we are currently working, with average working hours between 9am-11pm!
But me, Kris and Greg took the local bus to IKEA in Redhook today and I shot some pics!
Your-Majesty is not only a design agency, we also make delicious wines!
The start of the blizzard that turned NYC into winterland overnight. Pic from YM Office
Ok, lets take the bus to IKEA this time.
People of Redhook seem to love their dogs.
Aile 2 Bin 32 please. Unfortunately the coathanger and shoerack we were looking for were out of stock
“Julstök.” And i bought a x-mas bock!
Our little kitchen is now prepped for X-mas and filled with X-mas spirit… even though Greg is a jew.
Wow, it has already been a month since I came to the US of A and the time seems to just fly by! In one month I have accomplished to:
Spent 1 month on my awesome intership at Your-Majesty
Got myself and my three comr ades an awesome flat in central Williamsburg.
Found myself a brunchplace just around the corner, Simple Café at Bedford Avenue.
Got offered sexual favors from a homeless woman for 20 dollars.
Aw screw it, this was a lousy way to explain all the stuff I´ve been through so far
The internship as earlier mentioned is doing great. Everyone at Your-Majesty are so friendly and welcoming and both me and Kristofer got included in a real, big, project from day one! No doing banners for two months before the real stuff! So our first project is launchin early next year!
I am currently working as a flash developer and so far I must say I feel pretty comfortable in that role, I’m learning a ton of stuff each day and it’s really intresting to be a part of a big project. I hope to get the chance to try out my producing skills soon as well!
As mentioned we get along really good with the other people at the agency. The company holiday party was a couple of days ago and we went to one of the oldest resturants in New York, WEARING 17CENTURE WIGS! Haha, but it was so much fun and was a night to remember! Our two creative directors Jens and James together with our AD Christian had a kind of intresting drinking song that I couldn’t keep away from doing a little movie of
When I’m not working I try to see stuff. But I haven’t even seen the statue of liberty yet There is so much to explore in New York and I’m currently obsessed of secondhand shopping in Brooklyn! Everything is so cheap and awesome!
Shirt and Black leather shoes on Vice Versa second hand store in Williamsburg: $21 !! Bowtie, American Apparel: $20
Blue pinstriped shirt: $3 at Thrift Store Seconhand, Williamsburg. Brown leather bag (perfect for my macbook): $15 at Vice Versa! “Köprus”
Speaking of clothes I’m happy to announce that mine, Samuels, Haralds and Marcs final project, Tjallamalla online shop, has been brought to life is now live! We have worked so hard on it and it feels just great to finally have it live. My role in the project has been as the project manager and head developer, alot of hard work, but it was definitely worth it.
As a PM/Producer I have learned a lot about the client journey, working with large scale real projects and working as a team.
As a developer I´ve experienced my first real big project, working with other developers and a whole new language, called Liqiud.
I learned a ton of other stuff, like the importance of making products look good, and alot about how the e-commerce business works as well.
So… if anyone want help with hooking up a great looking online store, I’m your man!
